Fujifilm have today announced they are phasing out three of its black and white and colour films due to low sales. Neopan 400, Superia Reala 35mm and Pro 160S 35mm will soon cease to be available to buy.
While Russ Gunn, Fujifilm’s senior product manager for professional film, comments that they “have had to sacrifice slower selling products in order to continue to produce and market more popular formats”, I can’t help think this could be a sign of the times.
I personally own two film cameras, a 35mm and a medium format (oh, three if you count my Holga too!). I also own two digital SLR’s and while I would love to think I will dust off the film cameras, the fact is I haven’t since going digital. That said, I do also have quite a few old rolls of film around, which might be quite fun to shoot on – especially as they have all expired… hmm, maybe I will dig them out and dust them off

Sony is due to launch its first ever digital SLR next month, marking the birth of a new camera and lens system. Since acquiring Konica Minolta earlier this year, Sony has been planning an aggressive entry into the DSLR market aiming for a leading share of the market by the end of 2008.
The Alpha 100 will be aimed at entry level users and will compete with the Canon 350D and Nikon D50. The 100 will have a 10.2m pixel resolution and will feature Sony’s Super SteadyShot technology, providing vibration reduction whichever lens is in use. The RRP for the camera body only is £599 while a kit containing a standard 18-70mm zoom lens will cost £699, with a twin lens combination retailing at £849.
Sony will have tough competition from Canon and Nikon, but I am sure they will do extremely well at the entry level end… Camera Lounge will be watching with interest!
